About Us

Welcome to McGuire Harley-Davidson/Buell. It’s been 9 years since Mike McGuire purchased Bill Chaney Harley-Davidson Motorcycles Inc. from his good friends Bill and Josiane Chaney. Having been in business for 37 years Bill became a widely known legend in the Harley-Davidson family. Although Bill has since passed on, his enthusiasm and loyalty remain through Josiane who has continued her work at the dealership.

Mike and his wife Kevin have been married for 28 years. They met in 1978 while working at a Chevron station; Kevin was assistant manager and a student at Cal while Mike was a mechanic. They currently live in Alamo while their daughter, Jamie, recently graduated from FIDM in Los Angeles. The other occupants of the house include two horses and two dogs. They also have a son, Ryan who works at the dealership and has enjoyed riding bikes since he was around the age of 9. Ryan currently rides a customized Softail. Jamie rides a Honda CR150f dirt bike and her horse Savannah when she is home visiting from school. Mike began riding when he was 10 years old and went on to race motocross for many years to follow. When Mike was 16 he bought his first street bike, a 1975 Suzuki GT550 two stroke triple. Some years down the road, Kevin bought Mike his first Harley-Davidson® motorcycle for Father's Day in 1993...a Heritage Softail®. Mike currently rides a 2006 Road Glide®. For roughing it in the dirt Mike rides a Honda CRF450X. Mike has also taken up vintage motocross racing. In the vintage class Mike rides a 1974 Husky 400. Mike loves to take long rides by himself and cruises an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 miles per year. For the past three years on his birthday last year Mike decided his goal would be to ride 1,000 miles in one day. He left Walnut Creek at 7:15am and did not return home until 10:45pm; Mike rode 1,100 miles that day!

Prior to buying the Walnut Creek dealership, Mike owned 3 Chevron stations which were sold in order to buy the dealership. Kevin also owned a Chevron station that she sold in 2000 when she decided to retire. Kevin now spends most of her time skydiving or with her horse. Mike and Kevin were good friends with Bill and Josiane Chaney when they moved their dealership to the Walnut Creek location in 1996. Mike began helping at the dealership by filling in for an absent General Manager. Mike said that although he had a full time job attending to his Chevron stations he loved volunteering one day a week at the dealership. Mike purchased the Walnut Creek dealership from the Chaneys on December 10, 1998. The thing he likes least is dealing with the problems that exist when you have 51 employees. He was once asked what it was like owning a Harley-Davidson Dealership, he responded by saying "it's kind of like being the guy at the circus who follows the elephants around with a broom, if you know what I mean." Mike's philosophy in life is to enjoy every minute like it's your last. In his leisure time (which is not very often) Mike likes to spend time with his family or riding his street and dirt bikes. Although Mike works a lot, he does not mind because he enjoys what he does because his job is his hobby. Mike said that when he first bought the dealership he didn't really appreciate the HOG chapter because he had so many other things to deal with. When he got more acquainted with them he realized it was a win-win relationship. Mike feels we have one of the best chapters around and feels "we've been blessed with the leadership that we have had the past several years." When Mike talks to other dealers and hears them complain about their chapters he is reminded of what a great chapter he sponsors.

When McGuire Harley-Davidson began business in 1998 its five year business plan included opening a satellite (S.R.L.) store. Although it took a little longer than expected, Mike completed his business plan in August of 2004 when a 20,000 square foot facility named Devil Mountain Harley-Davidson/Buell opened its doors. Both stores offer one stop shopping for any customers Harley-Davidson needs, each store includes a well stocked parts department, factory trained technicians, and a well presented display of MotorClothes® merchandise and accessories, not to mention a show room floor stocked with new and used Harley-Davidson® Motorcycles.

Mike feels the most important and rewarding part of his job is fulfilling the dreams of his customers which is why Mike is such a successful business owner, he understands that in order to reach out to a wide range of people he must really make it about the customer and their needs. Perhaps that is why Mike McGuire received the new Retail Environment of the year award in 2001 for the western region from the Harley-Davidson Motor Company. Also, a year later Mike won the coveted Western Region Vehicle Sales Performance Award for the 2002 and 2003 model years, the Motor Company gives out only four of these awards per year; when asked how he felt about winning the award two years in a row Mike replied, “it was quite an honor when the award was won the first time, but to win back to back, we were ecstatic." In addition, Harley-Davidson recently honored McGuire Harley-Davidson/Buell for outstanding sales, service, and facililty with its highest and most prestigious award...the Gold Bar and Shield Award. Over 650 dealerships were rated by Harley-Davidson using a predetermined set of criteria, only the top 25 highest rated dealerships are presented with the award. Mike feels the reason he won the Gold Bar and Shield Award is because he has "the best employees in the industry."

McGuire Harley-Davidson also offers on-line shopping 24/7 at www.mcguire-hd.com.

McGuire Harley-Davidson/Buell offers one stop shopping for all your Harley-Davidson needs. McGuire Harley-Davidson/Buell is located in two unique buildings in the heart of Walnut Creek. The sales department is located in the old Black Diamond Brewery building. Unfortunatly, they took the brewing equipment with them! The top floor of the original building is completely dedicated to motor apparel and collectibles. The parts department is located downstairs and has the largest selection of Genuine Harley-Davidson® parts and accessories in Northern California. Also located downstairs is the service department which offers state of the art service, repair, and performance needs.
In July of 2000 Mike McGuire opened his second location, McGuire Harley-Davidson Shop in San Ramon, California. McGuire Harley-Davidson Shop served the San Ramon Valley area on a smaller scale. However, the 8,200 square foot facility maintained all of the features a full service dealership provided. The San Ramon location offered its customers with a motorcycle sales department, a service department with 5 factory trained technicians,a well stocked parts department, and a wide range of motor apparel and collectibles.
Last, but definitely not least came Devil Mountain Harley-Davidson/Buell in August of 2004. The 20,000 square foot building is located in Pittsburg, California offering a large Harley-Davidson/Buell showroom floor and a sales department that offers insurance, financing, and a buyer assistance program (all trades welcome including imports). The parts department offers a wide range of Genuine Harley-Davidson® parts and accessories for any customizing needs. The MotorClothes® merchandise department also carries a wide variety of riding apparel, and now carries custom back t-shirts that can not be found at any other dealership! Lastly, no dealership would be complete without a service department with 6 factory trained technicians ready to take care of all performance or repair needs.
